Congratulations to the Historic Natchez Foundation, winner of the 2020 President’s Award! In 1973, the stately Prentiss Club was slated to be razed for a parking lot, when community members led a grassroots effort to stop the demolition. This feisty group went on to form the Historic Natchez Foundation and have been fighting to preserve the special historic character of their town ever since. After the Prentiss Club suffered a devastating fire in 2018, the Historic Natchez Foundation stepped forward to assume ownership of the building, rebuild the roof and stabilize the structure to buy it time until the right person comes along to bring it back to life. For this and many other preservation victories, the Mississippi Heritage Trust is pleased to present the Historic Natchez Foundation with the 2020 President’s Award.
